Hi,
What I have: home machine with windows 7 and VirtualBox Version 4.1.20 and cisco client on host (Windows 7) Machine
What I am trying to do: Use VPN to connect to my office from home win 7 machine and then rdp to my office workstation.
What is Happening: I can connect using vpn and getting the ip address from my workplace, but when trying to rdp to my work machine or any other machine I am getting the following error:
Remote Desktop can't find the computer "office workstation". This might means that "office workstation" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to.
I have tried rdp to ip address of office machine. This use to work before the installation of Virtual Box.
My observations: Virtual box creates a network adapter and assign an ip address to it. after vpn connection, I can only ping the adapter of virtual box which is under file >> Preferences >> network. I think what is happening when we connect to vpn it gets the ip address, but after vpn when we try to ping gateway of vpn we are using the adapter of virtualbox but not the one for cisco vpn.
What I believe the problem will resolve if after vpn connection the default network adapter change to cicso vpn rather than virtual box.
If you have experienced same issue or have some idea then let me know.
Thank you.

Re: unable to RDP outsize LAN
That is not uncommon. VirtualBox networking and VPN both interfere with the normal functioning of the network card. Sometimes they do not work well together on the same card.
If your VPN is important, disable the VirtualBox networking on the network card. If you really need both I would recommend installing two NICs and using one for each job.

Hi,
If above explanation is correct then can you let me know how to "disable the VirtualBox networking on the network card" ?

From the properties of the network card as seen from the Windows Network and Sharing Center (the same way as you enable or disable any other service on a network card).
