Expanding Solaris_11_Express_Developer VM Disk

Looking at previous posts in 2009 and 2010 regarding expanding Solaris Disk Space I found
no answers. I Am working to expand the usable disk space on my VirtualBox installation
of Solaris_11_Express_Developer from the 16 GiB that is available after importing the
appliance to 200 GiB. The first thing that I did was to create a .VDI file from the .VMDK
file as follows:

C:\Users\grace\VirtualBox VMs\Solaris_11_Express_Developer_VM_1>vboxmanage clone hd
Solaris_11_Express_Developer_VM-disk1.vmdk Solaris_11_Express_Developer_VM-disk1.vdi --format vdi
0%...10%...20%...30%...40%...50%...60%...70%...80%...90%...100%
Clone hard disk created in format 'vdi'. UUID: c212f18b-d214-4895-9b03-c8607f9e5493

Then I expanded the .VDI file:

C:\Users\grace\VirtualBox VMs\Solaris_11_Express_Developer_VM_1>vboxmanage modifyhd
Solaris_11_Express_Developer_VM-disk1.vdi --resize 200000
0%...10%...20%...30%...40%...50%...60%...70%...80%...90%...100%

Using settings/Storage I re-assigned the virtual disk using the .vdi rather than the
.vmdk. This seemed succesful.

I looked at a "vanilla install of the appliance using gparted and saw the following (attachment 1)

I started the VM and using gparted I examined the virtual disk and observed a new
large unallocated space. Now it is a matter of assigning this space to my working
solaris partition. (attachment 2)

Now my question is how do I assign the unallocated 179.31 Gib to the available working space?
I assume this invloves appending it to the existing solaris 15.99 Gib.

I made a snapshot of the existing configuration. Can anyone help me with the next steps
required to accomplish my goal of having an enlarged Solaris_11_Express_Developer VM?

I was able to partition the unformatted section to EXT3. Gparted now shows:

/dev/dsk/c/c7t0d0s0 is now part of active ZFS pool rpool.

After the typing "pkg update pkg" and rebooting I was able to use the
update manager, but I still do not have space to get and install the updates.

What do I need to do now so that I can install updates?

I would still like to make the additional space contiguous. I am not sure what good
the ZFS pool is? I don't want to have to worry about where things are installed. Any
discussion about this might be helpful.

For those who have found this post, I was able to resolve my issue and the
details are available on a different forum. Please refer to the OTN Discussionn
forum forum for Solaris/Solaris 11 thread: "Adjusting Solaris_11_Express_Developer

I was successful in adding the additional disk space that I wanted and my issue was
resolved.
