4 CPUs Windows 7 64-bit Host

How can I allocate 4 CPUs (or 3) to my Ubuntu machine? When I do it says "VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR. (VER_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED)."

Believe it or not, the message means just what it says.

To use multiple CPUs, VirtualBox needs access to the host's hardware virtualization. The message is telling you that it cannot get access. Is it enabled? If it is, something else is using it.

I have no idea. It depends on what hardware you are using. It is a hardware/BIOS setting. If it is enabled in the BIOS but VirtualBox cannot access it, some other software product is using it. There again, you are the only one who find out what program running on your machine is causing the problem.

I am a (whatever BIOS is) noob. I don't know how to do any of it and Wikipedia didn't help. I have a Sony laptop running Windows 7.

Can someone tell me EXACTLY how to get to BIOS, and EXACTLY what I type in? Thanks.

EDIT: I finally figured out what and how the BIOS is and works. I can get to it fine. I will keep posting my progress.

EDIT 2: How do I enable virtualization or whatever it's called in BIOS? That's all I need to know now.

I wish I could get 4 cpus to work with Win 7. The Limt is 2 cpus if your lucky.

datacenter is for 4 cpus... forget bios.

Check ebay for failed companies hw with datacentre ... there's alot of them thanks to Obama!

Nevermind. I finally got to the real BIOS and enabled it.

While Prime624 has resolved his issue, Here is how to check for Hardware Virtualization and its status for Windows 7 from Microsoft (It's intended for Win 7 Professional and Ultimate which suports Microsofts Virtual PC, but the test will work on any version of Win 7. The tool is 'Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool' and is available at Microsoft.com/downloads.

To determine whether your PC supports hardware virtualization:
Step 1. Does my PC have a CPU with support for hardware virtualization?

◦Download and run the Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool

◦If you receive the message “This computer does not have hardware-assisted virtualization,” your computer does not meet the hardware requirement for Windows Virtual PC, but you can still use Windows 7 XP Mode by running this hotfix. Be aware that XP Mode will run much better if hardware-assisted virtualization can be enabled.

◦If you receive the message “Hardware-assisted virtualization is not enabled on this computer,” go on to Step 2 below.

◦If you receive the message “This computer is configured with hardware-assisted virtualization,” download and install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode.
