Problem Booting Windows NT 4.0 SP6 Workstation

Hi !!!!

I'm trying to run on virtual box a system running on an old Pentium III. My Host is Virtual Box 3.2.8 OSE.

The system is based on Windows NT 4.0 SP6 Workstation. We dumped the physical machine with Clonezilla. Then created a virtual machine, same RAM Size, same Hardisk. Booted from Clonezilla CD and then restored from the DUMP.

When booting the virtual Machine it crashed, Showing the following message:

Code: Select all

HAL: MPS MP Structure not found
HAL: No MPS table found

HAL: This HAL.DLL requires a MPS Version 1.1 system
Replace HAL.DLL with the correct hal for this system
The system is halting
Any Idea on how to solve this? I've no NT 4 installation Disks. Attached below is the screenshot of the machine crashed.

Looks like you have multi-processor kernel on the guest image but do not have it enabled on the host.
Look for virtualization in the bios and enable it, then make sure that you have it enabled in the guest settings as well as IO/APIC.

Also IIRC running MP (NT4) kernel is probably going to make the host run hot. Better keep an eye on it.

Perry:

Notice that I've cloned physical machine, an old Pentium III with only one processor. When I've created the machine I've added only one processor.

After enabling " IO/APIC" I get a different error, see the attached file. Help is apreciated.

I've read the article, then understood what you were trying to tell me. I've enter the bios and changed options accordingly.

Now booting with VT-X/AMD-V Enabled the system hangs with the error attached below.

Ideas are appreciated
