Trying to play a game, won't work

Post by JL93 »

Hey all, I have a Max OSX host and I am working with windows 7 inside of virtualbox. Just installed the demo for railroad tycoon, and I get this error message when I try to open it: "No hardware accelerated DirectX 8.1 devices/drivers were found". I tried googling this problem and it seems it is a hardware issue? But I am not entirely sure. I looked around the forums here and people are playing much higher computer intensive games without problems, so I assume I just need to tweak some settings.

Any help would be great!

The two tweaks are:

- Guest Additions installed with 3D
- 3D activated in the guest settings

And then it may work. If not, then play the games native.

If i remember right, VBOX does not support DirectX < 9.

I installed guest additions, and now my start menu has disappeared and railroad tycoon says "couldn't find a valid video mode!"

EDIT: Got the start menu back

Don't you mean it doesn't support 9 or higher?

EDIT: Checked, and it supports 8 and 9 only.

Maybe 7. But that does not change that there ary only the two settings. If it does not work, then there is nothing you can do instead of playing games native.
