Re: Share Folder Doesn't Work
Turn on Network discovery
Control Panel> Network and sharing> Advanced
This will enable your entire Vm to be seen.
If you just want a specfic folder then right click and add permissions for your name. If you don't any empty directory will appear. You must show something by allowing permissions.
When done reboot
just click Computer > network> you should see the computers now on your same workgroup.
Tips: assign static Ips and are workgroup name other than WORKGroup
Hope this helps.

Re: Share Folder Doesn't Work
Actually VBox shared folders have nothing to do with the workgroup or network shares.
If you can not see the VBox shared folder it probably means that you 1) do not have the guest additions installed (in the guest), or 2) the share is not made properly.
See Chapter 4.3 Shared folders in your VirtualBox users manual.
Also note: By default the guest will be set up to use VBox NAT and you will not be able to see the network anyway. If you prefer network shares you will need to use Bridged (if you have a router) or host-only as a second adapter.

Re: Share Folder Doesn't Work
Sorry, In terms of VB you are correct.
In terms of windows (bad habit I know) no files will appear unless permissions are granted.
