I am sure the usb drive is PhysicalDrive1, I am trying to set up FreeBSD to run on a memory stick, I want to run UNIX outside the classroom with admin privledges since the only UNIX class offered covers the user world.
And I assume you have read the dire warnings in the user manual related to raw disk access; and frankly in this case I do not see what raw access buys you that could not be more easily had by simply locating the VM files in a folder on the USB drive.
My ultimate goal is to install FreeBSD from the USB drive, I travel for business, and need FreeBSD for school it will help me to go above the user level in UNIX. I have a USB with an installer, but need to boot from the USB drive to install in VirtualBox, when I use the iso image I get an error in VirtualBox. I can't tell what the error message is because the installer writes a dialog box right accross the error message, and my thinking is that I can work around this by installing freeBSD from the USB drive, afterall I can install freeBSD on a PC. Searching the net I find a web page entitled "Boot your USB Drive in VirtualBox", hence the internal command. I have plenty of PCs hanging around the house, if I trash one I'm OK with it. If I am sucessful the knowledge I gain, will be worth the price.
Thanks mpack for your time, if you can help I would be appreciative.
I'm afraid I have no idea what you are doing. To install an operating system in VirtualBox you first create the VM, specifying the hardware to simulate, then you mount your ISO as a virtual CD, then you start the VM and follow the instructions you see. You can't get an error from VirtualBox while the guest OS installer is running, because if VBox had a problem then the guest OS would not be started.
And none of this seems to have any relationship to the original question about "createrawvmdk". I thought you were creating a VM which you could move between PCs. If all you want is a VM on your laptop then that is normal VirtualBox use and doesn't need any special steps.
