[Solved] Installing 64 bit guest fails with page fault

Post by BillNZ »

Hi, I'm new to VirtualBox. I've got an Win 7 64 bit Intel i5 16GB RAM and VT-x is turned on in BIOS. I want to try as guest FreeBSD (and also PC-BSD). I've set up a virtual machine with OS Type: FreeBSD (64 Bit) with Base Memory 8GB. I set up the CD/DVD as the 64bit install iso files (which have the correct MD5 hash). In both cases the loader starts up, and then I get trap number 12 panic: page fault. Thanks for any advise.

Post a VM log file please, as a zipped attachment. See Minimal information needed for assistance.

I see no errors recorded in the log, all I see is the VM being suspended shortly after attempting to boot from CD. Have you checked the MD5 sum on the ISO?

You might also try reducing the VM RAM to 2GB, see if that changes anything.

Hi, the MD5 is ok. I changed RAM to 2GB. Still same error see attached screen shot.

The only other change that springs to mind is to enable the IO APIC option in VM settings | System.
