New mac user file mixup

Post by Arctic_Rat »

Helle all,
I have upgraded my host Mac (OS 10.5.8 ) to an OS 10.8.1. The Windows virtual machine was functionning quite well. I migrated the complete old Mac hard drive into the new Mac. I updated Virtual Box to the newest version 4.1.20.

When I start the virtual machine I get the following error message:

Failure to open the session for the Windows virtual machine on Mac

Could not open the medium '/Users/myname/Library/VirtualBox/HardDisks/Windows sur Mac.vdi'.

VD: error VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND opening image file '/Users/myname/Library/VirtualBox/HardDisks/Windows sur Mac.vdi' (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).

Code d'erreur : NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Composant : Medium
Interface : IMedium {53f9cc0c-e0fd-40a5-a404-a7a5272082cd}

The new mac has the user name my_name as opposed to myname. I would suspect that this is the culprit however I did manage to change the new Mac user name. Big mistake as this changes the whole file set up. I corrected this promptly.

I could not find in the forum an identical situation - probably quite simple - nor in the faq's.

Any helpfull toughts, cheers

Marc

Supplemental to this, the question would be how may I modify the Virtual machine file path to access the Mac 10.8 new location. This new location was modified during migration from the previous system.

Thank you

If the old VM did not use snapshots then building a new VM around the old VDI is probably the simplest solution: have the old settings xml available for reference. Try to end up with everything in one folder.

It is obvious that your old VM used the V3 folder structure, which is unfortunate. With a v4 VM you would simply move the VM folder to the correct place.
