VM crashes with Guru Meditafter upgrade to Virtualbox 4.1.20

Post by praveenthakur5 »

Hi,

I have been using Virtualbox from past 1 year and all Guest I used to run with 4GB RAM.Suddenly after upgrading to VB 4.1.20, Guests started crashing with 4GB RAM.

Detailed Description
+++++++++++++++++
Yesterday I have upgraded to Virtualbox 4.1.20. Today, when I am running Guest (Windows 2008 R2 & RHEL 5.6), it crashes with Guru Meditation error. Guest are crashing when RAM allocated to them is 4GB. When I run same Guest with 1GB RAM, it works fine. My Windows 7 host is 8GB RAM.

Please help.

Thanks,
Praveen

Do you try to run the guests at the same time? If each guest is allocated 4GB then you leave nothing for the host to operate with.
The log file is showing a host memory low error which would be correct if you start the second guest.
Do they work at 3GB each and in tandem.

What version did you have previously? Do you have Google Chrome installed on the host?

I had Virtual Box 4.1.18 previously. Yes, I have Google Chrome installed on host.

Hi Perryg,

This post I had already referred. My google chrome settings are looking fine. Do you have any other clue?

Please see attached file for Google Chrome setting.

Not sure. Everything points to the same condition. Very few things cause this and you need to shut down services until you find out what. Some virus software also causes this issue.

I have tried to run guest with 1024MB, 2048MB, 3072MB and 4096MB. It crashes only when I run with 4096MB RAM.

I misunderstood you then as I thought you were only able to get it to function at 1GB. That being the case and assuming that this worked for you in 4.1.18, you need to post a regression at the link below:

Also, following Microsoft Office 2007 related updates have got pushed to my host recently. Would those cause any issue?

Your log states that the host is using approx. 3GB. The only thing that I have seen cause this issue is when something interferers with providing the memory to VirtualBox. The only way I cold help is to have a list of the running services, then I might be able to see the issue. Other than that you would need to stop services until you see the one that is causing the problem.

What have you installed on the host since this decided not to work?
What about a virus, have you tested for this?
What about right after a cold boot, will it work then?

As far as I remember nothing new I had installed.
Perryg wrote:What about a virus, have you tested for this?
Yes I have scanned for viruses. No virus is detected

I didn't understand your question here.

in a command windows type the following
tasklist > <file-name>
replace the <file-name> with a name and location that you can find, then post the file here.
Example: tasklist > c:\Users\Public\tasks.txt
