newbie can't figure out shared folders

i am a pc user tired of pc drama so recently shifted over to a macbook pro. i necessarily need to run windows (7) however, so have set up VB to help. Unfortunately, i can't figure out how to set up shared folders. the website documentation about mounting drives was not useful. i can actively see the documents on my Mac desktop but can't figure out how to 'see' them in my VB windows 7 system. it seems like this should be easy (especially since i couldn't find anyone else in the forum recently asking about it..?)
Thanks for your help!

Start up VirtualBox
Select the virtual machine
On the tool bar Select Settings
Select Shared Folders
On the right of pane, click on green plus-sign
Folder Path: navigate to the host folder to be shared
Folder Name: specify a convenient label for the folder - keep it simple: no blanks, no special characters
OK
OK
start/book up start the virtual machine
Best

this is really helpful! it looks like i've been able to map the folder. now, i just can't figure out how to 'see' it in the Virtual Machine. I've gone into Computer and don't see it; i've also clicked on Network and don't see it.
thanks (again!) for your help

Start/boot the window7 vm
Start --> Computer
Tools --> Map Network Drive
set drive id, like Z:
Browse for the folder (that simple name)
Finish
