Hi , I'm fresh about Linux .I find my 8G ubuntu 64bit's space is not enough . So I follow vkov_tinsky's method(
viewtopic.php?t=10348) to resize to 16G . But I get a new disk below and don't know how to merge them . Please help me by an easy way .

VBox_tinsky's method is from 2008 and long obsolete.
Start again, this time read the user manual section on "VBoxManage modifyhd --resize". Make sure you are not using snapshots.

Hi mpack,
Sorry for the late reply because of busing work . I use the new method and resize the disk to 16G (it's a very good method):
Code: Select all
D:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage modifyhd "E:\project\Linux\ubuntu12 64bit\ubuntu 12 64bit.vdi" --resize 16384
But I find the same disk arrange as I posted in above . Can you help me to merge the unallocated disk and let Ubuntu do not prompt me the disk is full ?
Really thanks .

Next step is to use GParted as you did above: use the mouse to grab the right end of the existing partition, and drag to the right to fill the unallocated space.

It seems it's not very easy :
http://www.netzgewitter.com/2011/08/res ... partition/
Because I can't resize or unamount /dev/sda1

You need to download the Gparted Live CD and boot the guest with the Live CD.

Solved ! Thank you every one .
My steps :
1.Resize the disk size from 8G to 16G using VBoxManage command .
Code: Select all
D:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage modifyhd "E:\project\Linux\ubuntu12 64bit\ubuntu 12 64bit.vdi" --resize 16384
2.Merge disk using Gparted live CD (can not merge login Linux first , because you can not resise /dev/sda1 that time).
2.1 Down load GPared live CD :
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
2.2 Power off Ubuntu .
2.3 Right click Ubuntu virtual machine -> setting ->storage -> IDE controller , click on the right side "add virtual CD-ROM" icon and select Gparted live CD (such as gparted-live-0.13.1-2.iso).
2.4 Start up Ubuntu and chose start with GParted . Then select something(I select default one) and language to start GParted and then you can resize /dev/sda1 now .
