Guest OS: oracle enterprise Linux 5.8 x86-64

Installing VBoxAdditions fails with this log: "unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIS..."

I installed the RPMs for listed for Fedora in the tutorial "Howto: Install Linux Guest Additions" but the DKMS rpm does not exit in the OEL 5.8 x86-64 installation media.

What other RPMs do I need to configure suceccessfully the VBoxAdditions?

Fedora? I'm by no means an expert on Linux, but surely the appropriate comparable Linux variant is Red Hat?

The Fedora instructions should work as well since it is based off Redhat, but the reason for the failure is given in the OPs post. Missing source for the kernel.

First make sure that you have enabled the public yum server for your version http://public-yum.oracle.com/
Then make sure to update the guest (yum update)
After which you should install the following:

Code: Select all

yum install dkms binutils gcc make patch libgomp glibc-headers glibc-devel kernel-headers kernel-devel
If you still have issues with not being able to find/install dkms you can always download and install from the source http://linux.dell.com/dkms/
