Terminal slow to update

Ever since I updated to 12.04, whenever I switch tasks from the fullscreen terminal window to Firefox and then back to the terminal, the response (or screen update) of the terminal window becomes extremely slow. If a task is running in the terminal, the output would not show for several seconds, characters typed also would not show for several seconds. I've found that if at this point I resize VirtualBox window, Ubuntu guest would rescale and the lag would go away. Anybody has seen this? Any idea?
Thanks!

Actually, I just remembered, this happens not just to the terminal, I see the same behavior in Firefox as well, it becomes extremely slow until I resize VirtualBox window.

From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
See Online Users Manual for the location of the file.

What happens if you boot Ubuntu to unity 2D, or Gnome classic?
I see a lot of OpenGL errors which is standard with the Intel graphics adapter. You might also need to bump the vRam up to 32MB and see if this helps.

I've tried bumping video memory to 32MB, same result.
One thing I just noticed is that the slow down happens only after I switch tasks using Alt-TAB and only if I held TAB long enough for the task switching menu to appear. If I switch tasks using the mouse or a quick Alt-TAB, everything is fine. So the menu seems to be the issue somehow. You mentioned you are seeing a lot of OpenGL errors, OpenGL is probably used to draw the menu. Maybe the issue is with 12.4 and the Intel graphics drivers?

Not just Ubuntu. It seems to be the Intel graphics and OpenGL. At least when using virtual guests.

I disabled 3D acceleration and the problem went away. The way the task switch menu looks has changed (got simplified), but I can live with that for now.

Tried finding a way to install the latest Intel drivers, but it seems involved...
