[SOLVED]Gentoo Guest won't resize display or share clipboard

Hi, I have a Gentoo guest installed on a Windows 7 host. X11 is working and I have emerged the VirtualBox guest additions. Seamless mouse integration works, but auto-risize display and clipboard sharing do not work.

I have verified that the guest additions service is actually running:

Code: Select all

justin@zepto ~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/virtualbox-guest-additions start
* WARNING: virtualbox-guest-additions has already been started
and that the kernel modules are being loaded:

Code: Select all

justin@zepto ~ $ lsmod
Module Size Used by
vboxsf 30898 0
vboxvideo 1838 1
ext2 49364 1
vboxguest 163245 3 vboxsf
snd_intel8x0 25163 0
snd_ac97_codec 106433 1 snd_intel8x0
ac97_bus 941 1 snd_ac97_codec
I made sure to check the "Auto-resize guest display" option in the VirtualBox window's View menu, but resizing the window does not change the guest's resolution. I also cannot copy text between the guest and host.

Relevant version info:

HOST: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit running VirtualBox 4.1.18 r78361
GUEST: Gentoo amd64 with 3.5.1 kernel running guest additions 4.1.18

Any help is greatly appreciated! Let me know if I can provide more information.

The Gentoo version of additions are a special version provided by Gentoo. You might get better and faster response asking the Gentoo folks. I know there are precise instructions on their site.

Here are the actual instructions. http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Virtualbox_Guest

I have followed the instructions on that page. I'll try asking the Gentoo forums then. Thanks.

Yeah I know when ever I have to install GAs on Gentoo the instructions work for me, but I have not installed a Gentoo guest for a while. Maybe you just missed a step. I know it is easy to do and if everything is not 100% it seems to not work. But the Gentoo folks are great and they will surely know what to tell you to do.

I figured it out. I had to reinstall the guest additions with the X USE flag (for X support) and then run the following when my X session starts:

Code: Select all

VBoxClient --clipboard
VBoxClient --display
Everything's working now.
