I have made a fresh installatoin of Mint 13 mate and have installed VB on it. I have imported XP from another VB on another hard drive which is on Ubuntu 12.04.
All is well except I cannot go on line with XP on my new system.
My version of VB is 4.1.18
I have ticked the box for VBoxusers and I have installed Guest Additions.
I need some help please.

What does "import" mean? Using the export/import feature should rarely be necessary. The most straightforward way to register an existing VM is using the Machine|Add... menu item.

However, leaving that aside. "Cannot go online" means what exactly? Internet browser doesn't work? Does the host browser work? How is the VM configured (i.e. network settings)?

The OP has probably come upon a new Ubuntu "feature" which is what Mint is based off where they have decided to change the way resolv.conf is configured.
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=50387 should fix the issue.

Thanks mpack
Yes I used the import/export feature. It has always been OK in the past.
The guest browser does not work. The host browser works.
I have attached the network settings.

Was my post too confusing? It pretty much says what to do to fix this issue.

the two files are locate thus:

Master control file

Code: Select all

~/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml
Guests control file

Code: Select all

~/VirtualBox/VirtualBox VMs/<guest>/*.vbox
Of course if you changed the default location of the guests files you would need to take that into consideration.
