Incidentally, as I don't see an explicit mention of this, are you using a laptop? I.e. is there some reason you haven't considered adding a humungous second drive? That's what I have in my PCs.

AIO iMac - 500gig HD plus a 2TB NAS and a secondary USB HD for Time Machine backups. Don't really want to start prising the screen off the iMac. As I said previously I have been pleasantly surprised by VirtualBox, it's a good product. If I had a wish list though it would be to have a "clean up HD" button like you get on the commercial products, it makes reclaiming disk space quick and simple.
