Guest Additions Install Fail

I'm running a windows XP guest on my Windows 7 laptop. I'd like to utilize shared folders but I'm unable to install guest additions. Whenever I select devices, install guest additions the install fails (see attached picture). It seems to get get hung up during the driver installation for the video card. The other attached picture is my device manager. The computer won't recognize my video adapter and I can't seem to get the drivers to install.

I've attempted to install guest additions in safe mode as well and it still fails. Does anyone have any suggestions to correct the problem?

I'm running this on a Lenovo Y580 laptop with an i7 3610 processor and a Nvidia GTX 660m 2GB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You need to install via the devices tab (upper left on the guests title bar).

Note. You can not use the video controller of the host in the guest. It must be the VirtualBox video driver.

Are you talking about the video driver or the guest additions?

If you're talking about the guest additions I ended up with the same fail message. I clicked on install guest additions option in the picture below.

If you're talking about the video driver I can't find what you're mentioning. Where on this menu would I install the video drivers if that is what you were talking about?

Again, thanks for the help.

Let's try this shall we.
With the guest running click on the devices tab and go to CD and at the bottom click on remove CD
Now click on the devices tab and click install guest additions. This should bring up the auto-run and start the Guest additions installation. Answer continue or affirmative to any prompts. This will install the VirtualBox graphics drivers.

Remember this is a virtual machine. You can not install any specific drivers like video or the guest will not work properly. They have to be the VirtualBox drivers.

Thanks, that ended up working. I had done that before but after installing the guest additions the computer wouldn't restart. It got stuck in a loop restarting itself over and over again. I ended up loosing a lot of progress that I had made. I thought it was because I continued the install despite the warnings and there was an issue to resolve first before I could continue. So this time I saved a copy of my virtual drive and gave it another go and it worked.

Thank you for your time I appreciate it. I'm not sure why I had that problem earlier.
