When I create a host-only adapter (File > Preferences > "VirtualBox - Settings": Network [+] icon) two adapters are created as follows:

Name: Local Area Connection
Type: LAN or High-Speed Internet
Status: Acquiring network address, Firewalled
Device Name: VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
Owner: System

Name: VirtualBox Host-Only Connection
Type: LAN or High-Speed Internet
Status: Connected, Firewalled
Device Name: VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter
Owner: System

Is this normal behavior? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps this topic needs clarification...

Windows XP, "Network Connections" window (i.e., Start > Settings > Network Connections).

When I create a host-only adapter, two adapters are created! #1 is given Name: "Local Area Connection". #2 is given Name: "VirtualBox Host-Only Connection". Both are given Device Name: "VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter".

When I remove #2 (which I assume is the real one), and then refresh the "Network Connections" window, #1 disappears.

Why two adapters? Is adapter #1 (above) real? (...I never noticed it before and have failed to get host-only working.)
Is 2 adapters normal or is it a clue why I'm having difficulty with host-only?

I had same problem - Kept coming up with two adapters, delete one and they'd both go .
- I found the problem to be caused by a BIOS setting - on the HP system I was working on it it was in the Bios under "security - System security" - "Setting called Virtualisation Technology Directed I/O (Vtd)" - I disabled this.
Then of course I had to go into Windows Device Manager and remove both of the host-Only adapters in there.
- then started up my VM and when I created a Host-only adapter from then on I only got the one adapter I was expecting.
