Can't get 1440x900 res on XP. Already installed guest adtns

Post by jjrs »

Running Virtualbox on a 13" mid-2012 Macbook Air with 1440x900 resolution, but can't get a comparable res on XP. Installing guest additions actually seemed to decrease options. Now I get 800x600, no more, no less. Also downloaded the extension pack and the bootcamp drivers, in case that helped.

Installing the extension pack would give the features (e.g. USB2) which the extension pack provides. Installing the bootcamp drivers would do nothing good since the virtual hardware is totally wrong. Just install the GAs properly - which I suspect you didn't. Uninstall the bootcamp drivers and if you still have problems then post a log file (as a compressed attachment please).

Nope. Virtualbox driver installs, it just doesn't support the screen size. Though after reinstalling I can now get 3, the largest being 1152 by 864.

I don't know how to do that. Can you explain how?

The log file is called "VBox.log" and is stored in the "Logs" subfolder of the VM folder. Compress it using the Mac equivalent of WinZip, and attach the compressed archive to a message here. The log will settle the matter of which version of the GAs is installed.

I assume you know: to change display settings in XP, right click the desktop, select Properties and then the "Settings" tab from the dialog. Move the "Screen Resolution" slider right to increase resolution. You can also drag the VM window to the required size - though IMHO it's best to use a standard resolution, as some apps/websites will be optimized for that.
