Hallo,

ich just installed VBox on another PC and tried to use a vdi created on another system. It works fine, but I cannot get INet-Access working.
I use NAT, which should work "Out of the Box" - but it doesnt. The Windows XP guest is set as DHCP-Client, but does not receive an IP.

The former System was a DHCP-Client of a Router itself. The new Host System has a static IP - maybe this causes the problem? (even if I cant understand why)....
or maybe for some reson the internal DHCP of VBox is broken/disabled?!
I tried reinstalling VBox 4.1.8, but nothing changed. Guest Addiotions installed, including Direct 3D

From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Log shows no entry for NAT and it is correctly set in the Guest settings. Are you sure you installed all the drivers when you installed VirtualBox?

If you are sure you installed all the drivers you can try to fix this by adding a second adapter in the guest settings and disable the first to see if it will pick up the lease.

You mean the drivers on the host system?
I am - and the Host-Only-Networking-Adapter is listed in the Netwrok Connections of the Host.

disabeling the first Adapter and using a second configured as NAT does not change anything. Its called "LAN Connection 2 " in the Guest now, but this is the only difference.

It should have NAT selected not host-only.

Sure. but the Name of the Network Adapter on the Host System is "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" - independent from the settings within the VMs. Thats what I was talking about.

NAT doesn't require a host adapter.

The Host-Only Network Adapter on the host is used for Host-Only networking, not for NAT networking.

Ok. I thought it would be used for any kind of connection between host and VM.

But this should nevertheless prove, taht the network drivers on the host are installed?!
