[solved] updated host now guest scroll wheel fails to scroll
Posted: 7. Aug 2012, 12:23
Host = win 7 enterprise
Guest = arch linux
Before yesterday, all was working perfectly, then IT pushed a ton of MS patches, one of which (and this *may* be a red herring) was with regards to USB mice.
Since then, the scroll wheel in my Arch Linux guest fails to do anything - it doesn't even register anything in xev
I've seen a few guides on adding entries to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d but they have conflicting advice and none of them worked for me.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?
The scroll wheel does still work on windows. I've tried changing mice to see if it was limited to the MS USB mouse I had but the same problem occurs with a logitech one too
Update
======
(I also changed the title to fit the [solved] message in there)
Not exactly sure *how* I fixed it, but I know for sure the following happened
1) re-installing guest additions had no effect (using the ArchLinux package)
2) I removed the guest additions and guest modules and then ensured no dangling entries were left
3) installed the previous version of guest additions and guest modules and problem was not resolved
4) upgraded back to the version I was removing/reinstalling in (1) and this fixed it
Doesn't really make much sense to me, but I'm not complaining. I never realised how much I love the scroll wheel before this week
