I currently use VirtualBox on my PC at work to run our software for programming our website app. I use the bridged adapter option of networking so that the virtual linux server (ubuntu) get's its own IP address. It works great on my work computer and I can run our entire site locally without any problems.

I figured this would be a good solution for being able to work from home as well. Unfortunately, none of the network adapter types work on my laptop. I have tried every option (NAT, Bridged, Internal and Host Only) and every time I boot the VM, the networking component hangs for 2 minutes, and never gets a connection.

I figured this might be a problem with the wireless adapter on my laptop, so I plugged in a ethernet cable, and tried it from the wired network card, with the exact same results.

I have been doing networking and virtual PC stuff for years without a problem, but this one has me stumped. If anyone could give me some assistance with this issue, I would really appreciate it.

Actually the host-only should be the best approach for you if all you need to do is access the guest from the host.
Assuming that you installed the host-only service when you installed VirtualBox (it is by default) you may need to boot the guest without a network adapter and configure the guest properly first. That is assuming that you are using a clone of the one you have at work.

The host needs to be able to access the internet as well, so unless I'm mistaken, I need "bridged" in order for this to work properly.

The host is independent of the host-only network.
If you check you will actually have two adapters active in the host. One is your bridged to the outside world and the other will be the virtual switch (loopback adapter) to the guest.

Well, I have tried both the bridged (which is what I use on my work computer), and I have tried hostonly, neither works. When I boot the ubuntu vm it hangs at the "waiting for network configuration...." portion of bootup for almost 2 minutes. When I finally get to where I log in, I type "ifconfig" and it only shows the lo (localhost) adapter. This is nothing else.

I used the vboxmanage.exe, and I know I'm using the right network connector.

Like I said you will probably need to fix the guest network that was already used. Depending on how you actually moved the guest to your new set up it sounds like a MAC address change happened and you are not running on eth0 any longer (the default for Ubuntu) Several ways to fix this but if you don't know how the easiest would be to edit the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules or you can delete the rules and Linux will configure it on the next boot.

Now if you had static addresses and manually edited settings you would need to look at them as well. Also depending on how the web server was configured you may need to actually change some configurations there for it to work in a different network.

You should be able to see what is actually being use with ifconfig -a in the guests terminal. Look specifically for eth0 and that it is running.

I deleted the net rules. I completely spaced that a new MAC would have generated. It has booted and i'm on the net now.
