Set up a proper Mac/Windows network share: this is a standard PC to PC networking problem not specific to VirtualBox - details on Google.

I did exactly what's taught online, sharing windows files with mac , but I got "The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." where I could do wrong? One thing, the file sharing should work via wifi right?

I don't know what you mean by that. The guest has what amounts to a local loopback connection to the host, so the host's WiFi is not relevant for file sharing - unless you were talking a properly configured server hanging off your router.

You do have Host Only networking enabled?
