I have 3 Windows Server 2008 r2 guests all with one network adapter - the internal network. I have set up one of my servers as a DC. I want to join the other two servers to the domain. However, the other two servers cannot see the DC. They cannot ping each other. I get a mix of destination host unreadable messages and request time out messages.

I have a DHCP and DNS server installed, both of which I have triple checked and reconfigured twice to make sure. However, all three servers have been assigned static ip addresses.

I have confirmed, and triple checked, that:
- My ip addressing is correct (correct subnet etc.)
- My DC is a fully functioning DC
- All the guests have only one network adapter, and that it is set to the vbox internal network.
- That the internal network name is the same, in this case, left as default: intnet
- The network adapters all have different MAC addresses and Ip addresses, so there are no conflicts
- I have the latest version of vbox, and the latest guest additions installed on all 3 servers
- I have performed a ping on the loop back address of all three servers, all of which are successful

I'm really struggling with this now and I do not know what is causing the issue. I honestly can't think of anything else to try/troubleshoot.

When using the intnet adapter (resembles a network switch) all issues usually reside in the guest/s & using ping is not useful unless you enable icmp which is disabled by default in w2008. Look for configuration issues in the guest/s

You could post the results of ipconfig /all from one of the servers and one from the DC.

I can only agree with Perry. I have been running a domain in an internal network for years. The internal network is simply a virtual switch and it just works. There is nothing to configure. Connecting vms to the internal network is just like plugging them into the same hub/switch.

Ping is not a very useful test these days because many modern firewalls block ICMP echo by default. Have you tried enabling DHCP and letting the vms get their network config from there? Have you tried using other network tests like nslookup? If an nslookup for your domain name works I wouldn't worry about ping.
