From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.
Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.
Also how are you cloning, VBoxManage or the main manager (GUI), Linked or full?

I've done some more work and have run the VM again since I posted. Do you want me to back up and repeat trying to make the clone before I run the command above, or can I run it as the VM is now?

IDE Controller (0, 0): F:\Angie\Comstock's Basic WinXP\Comstock's Basic WinXP.vmdk (UUID: 8d1f6437-294c-4b05-be46-0c6dbd8b1109)
IDE Controller (0, 1): F:\Angie\Comstock's Basic WinXP\WDO_Media32.iso (UUID: b4eecfee-32e8-404a-b5bc-9c36128a23c3)
Ok so the primary slave shows that the CD is mounted, but you are saying that it is not?
If you have verified that the media32.iso is not mounted to the virtual CD I need for you to shut down the guest and close the VirtualBox main manager and start the main manager and try to clone. Let me know the results.
When I tried to make the clone, the CD ISO WAS NOT attached... There was nothing attached except the virtual hard disk. After I posted, I attached the CD ISO in preparation for another posting I'm going to make regarding a failure there. I hope that's clear.
I will now remove the CD ISO and try cloning again. I'm sure it will fail again. I will post the results including the --details you have requested... Please stand by. Thanks! - Mark.

I watched the production. A new folder was created. It's filespec was: F:\Angie\Surfer's Basic WinXP\ . The folder was populated with a .vbox file & a .vmdk file. Then a progress bar indicated the progress writing the new .vmdk file. That took about 3 minutes. When the progress bar reached 100%, the error above was displayed and the folder was deleted.
OK let me try again. You have removed the cd, shut down and restarted both guest and the main manager. Now try to clone the guest again and see if it works this time.
If I may conjecture a cause... I have stored everything that can be attached to "Comstock's Basic WinXP" in the same folder with the .vbox & .vmdk files. I did that to facilitate portability. Could it be that that is creating a problem for the cloning utility?
It appears that the cloning utility is copying all files in the original's folder, not just the .vbox & .vmdk files. Why it would do that, I don't know. When it encounters a .iso file in the clone that has the same UUID as a .iso file in the original's folder, it pukes.
What do you think? I could run a test...
YOUR POST JUST CAME THROUGH AS I ATTEMPTED TO POST THIS REPLY.
I am trying to clone from a clean parent (original). It has NO CD ISOs attached. The only attached storage is the virtual hard disk. The cloning process seems to work, but at the end I get the error and the cloning utility deletes the clone (leaving only the parent) and puts up the error.
