[SOLVED] I can't mount from Devices.

From Devices, I selected 'Install Guest Additions' and nothing happened. I then did mount /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom and failed, so I repeated that process twice and still the same results.

I'm going out on a limb here but did you create the mount point "/media/cdrom"?
Where did you ever come up with your user name?

This really isn't a VirtualBox issue, but more about how to actually use the command line to mount the CD drive. Since the reply you received was that only root could do this you can't be root.
Type man mount in a terminal to get help on how to use mount
Hint: use sudo?

Code: Select all
root@ubuntu:-$ sudo mount /dev/srO /media/cdrom
mount: block device /dev/srO is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/srO already mounted or /media/cdrom busy
mount: according to mtab, /dev/srO is already mounted on /media/cdrom

First: If you are wanting to know the files in a directory you need to be in the directory to see them or ls with the absolute path. The same goes for commands.
So here are the commands to see what you are looking for.
In a terminal type the following:
cd /media/cdrom
then you can type ls to see the files. You should see VBoxLinuxAdditions.run if so type the following:
sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

I see you don't know your Linux commands very well. Save this link for reference
http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/cmd/
The command is ls (lower case L & S)
it should go at the front of the command if you are using the absolute path.
ls /media/cdrom
