I am running a Windows 2000 guest on a Windows 7-64 host.

The guest has suddenly started to be very slow to boot up. The Windows 2000 boot-up procedure happens quite normally until the message "Preparing network connections ..." appears. That remains on the screen for quite some time, or at least it seems so, before eventually clearing to the standard Windows 2000 desktop.

This started happening a couple of weeks ago. Before that the boot-up was much quicker. I have not made any changes to the guest (as far as I can remember). Is there any way I can get it back to the way it was before?

Yes, this seems to be the problem. It appears to be solved by changing the "VirtualBox Guest Additions Service" from Automatic to Manual, then never actually starting it. (It won't start anyway, and just times out. Presumably the delay is a waiting-for-timeout in the start-up routine.)

Everything I need from Guest Additions still seems to work. These are: mouse integration, reasonable quality display and shared folders. Presumably, though, there is something that isn't working properly which I haven't come across yet.

Can we leave this with the experts to look into for a future release?
