I deleted a clone and then tried to create a 'Full Clone' with the same name. Then I got this:

Code: Select all

Failed to create a new virtual machine.

Machine settings file 'C:\Users\LAPIII\VirtualBox VMs\Ubuntu Minimal 10.10 32-bit Clone\Ubuntu Minimal 10.10 32-bit Clone.vbox' already exists.

Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: Machine
Interface: IMachine {5eaa9319-62fc-4b0a-843c-0cb1940f8a91}
Callee: IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}
When I delete VM's, I always delete all the files. Why and where does the deleted VM exist?

Probably in the VirtualBox.xml file. You *must delete the guest in the VirtualBox main manager and even then you should shut down the main manager for at least 20 seconds to make sure that the VirtualBox.xml file is updated.

I don't know where VirtualBox.xml is. In the Virtualbox VMs folder, there is that cloned VM.

You don't need to know where VirtualBox.xml is - you asked where the data is stored, you were given the answer. Perry also gave you the actual solution to your problem, if you read his reply carefully. I.e. shut down VBox after deleting the old VM, wait 20 seconds, start up again. Now you'll be able to rename the other VM.
