I get an error while deleting a snapshot:

Failed to delete the snapshot Snapshot 1 of the virtual machine en_windows_7_professional_x64_dvd.

Could not merge the medium 'L:\VirtualBox\HardDisks\en_windows_7_professional_x64_dvd\Snapshots/{9cb5ba56-cd50-423d-ba87-c3026c7b93c1}.vdi' to 'L:\VirtualBox\HardDisks\en_windows_7_professional_x64_dvd_x15-65805.vdi' (VERR_INVALID_PARAMETER).

Result Code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: Medium
Interface: IMedium {53f9cc0c-e0fd-40a5-a404-a7a5272082cd}

I was trying to make the virtual partition larger, but the guest did not see the new partition, then I read that all the snapshots had to be deleted first. I deleted 5 of them, then this last one gave an error.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit host, Windows 7 Professional 64bit guest.

That's correct, of course "first" means they have to be deleted before the base VDI is resized. Otherwise when it gets to the final merge it finds that it has to merge a 40GB drive with a 20GB one, and gets confused.

You could try cloning the VM, see if that sorts it out. You'll be asked if you want to preserve the snapshot structure, or clone the current state only. Choose the latter. If it works then the result will be a VM with no snapshots - it may be already resized, maybe not (check before resizing again).

Then --resize needs to be modified to see if there are any snapshots before it changes the size, now the image is trash.

Snapshot did not work, Windows boots up there is an Windows Error Recovery message, when Launch Startup Repair is chosen then the computer reboots, when Start Windows Normally is chosen then the progress bar showing that it is loading files moves a couple of times then reboots. The clond size drive is also 40GB, so that is probably why VirtualBox cannot start Windows.
