USB won't connect to XP Vbox

Hi,

I have a windows specific USB dongle (I know that there is no driver for the MAC) and I cannot get this to connect to my XP VB (Is this possible?) I can however plug in other USB devices that work on both mac and xp and that works, its just this one dongle.

When I check the logs on the mac I get:
"The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying"

Checking the vbox log I get:

00:01:58.156 VUSB: attached '00000001070624b0[proxy 05ac:8242]' to port 2
00:02:14.517 TM: Giving up catch-up attempt at a 60 202 177 381 ns lag; new total: 60 202 177 381 ns
00:02:37.234 PCNet#0: Init: ss32=1 GCRDRA=0x0657c420[64] GCTDRA=0x0657c020[64]

I know there are a lot of the same questions, and I think I have tried all the possibilities. Just to list what I have done:
-Extension pack is installed
-Guest additions is installed
-Have tried adding a blank filter
-Have tried adding multiple blank filters
-Turned off to only use one CPU
-Turned off USB 2 support and turned on
-Plugged device in before starting VB
-Plugged device in after starting
-Combinations of the above

The USB mentioned is something I bought off Ebay to play RC plane simulator program, so Im not sure if I can get this to work. If someone could put me out of my misery either way that would be much apprecaited :)

Thanks

It sounds like this may have been a bad buy. Was it sold as new and working?

Yeah I have tested this on an XP machine and it works fine

If "key" means a dongle of some kind then those are known to sometimes (and deliberately) have finicky timing requirements, making them unusable or at least unreliable in a VM.

Thanks mpac, it is a dongle (sorry, and have updated post) Thats great to know. So there is no way to do a straight pass thru to VB (e.g. ignore mac totally and connect directly to XP?

No, the guest OS can't connect to the dongle using the hosts USB facilities - how could it, when it doesn't even know that the host is there (being a VM). USB devices are attached to a simulated USB host controller. Like all simulated hardware the USB controller will have slightly different timings than actual hardware.
