Help with VM Cloning

Hi guys,
I am runnin 4.1.18 and I am using Centos 6.2 as my Guest OS

What I really need is to set up a "Mirror" server, that will kick on if my main server goes down. My server was down for a few nights and didnt even know about it. I need to be able to have both Guest running at all times and basically keep each other as mirror.

I am not looking for a DNS cluster, I already have 3 clusters (NS1, NS2, NS3) setup.

I know there are limitation on Linux when it comes to mirroring or cloning. I tried using rsync, but first it was very complicated and second, I was told that rsync will not clone the entire server because of the running scripts.

Any help is much appreciated.

With regards,
Robin

With VBox running but all VMs shut down (not suspended), right click on the VM you wish to clone, select "Clone" from the menu that appears. Tell it to re-init the MAC address. If your original VM used snapshots then you'll be asked if you want to clone the current state only (yes), or preserve all snapshots (no).

There may be guest OS changes to make as well, e.g. changing the network name.

Thanks.
But this will require me to shut the OS down, which is exactly what I am trying to avoid. I need to make a "cluster" with the OS running.
Thanks

Copying a disk while it is "live" is fraught with dangers. It doesn't sound like you want a clone at all. It sounds like you are talking incremental synching of two drives. That may be possible using some kind of network tool, but it isn't a VirtualBox feature.
