There are only two prerequisites that need to be achieved for USB to work with a Linux host. You must at least log off and in before permissions take effect.

This is also explained in your VirtualBox users manual

In a host terminal run this:

Code: Select all

sudo usermod -aG vboxusers <your username>
Replace <your username> with the name you use to log in. Type your user password when prompted.

Be sure to log off and back in to finalize the change in permissions

Can you tell me why this is? Why can you not use sudo to run elevated commands?

Well you must have made a mistake in typing. But you can recover the root password from the recovery console if that was changed, or you can also fix your login from there. Here is a help link to get you started. http://askubuntu.com/questions/24006/ho ... t-password.
If it is just your login then you can find your user ID and add it to the admin group by using the same information I gave you before. Just be careful this time and type it exactly as shown. Linux is case sensitive so you must be sure.

Hello, i have worked hard to rescue my account but it is okay now, i have write this in the shell in recovery mode :

mount -o rw,remount /

ls /home

passwd

addgroup admin

adduser ***** admin

Thanks you for your help virtualbox works fine with usb.

I have lost my admin account with a virtual chinese livecd (win xp) and not with a bad typing in the shell.
