Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone has seen this before (image attached), or has any ideas on how to fix it.
I have a single WinXP client, where the graphics are corrupted and I've tried a number of things but can't find a fix.
I have a number of other clients and they seem fine.
The corruption appears remotely (on my laptop), locally (on the server but still with Remmina), and in the phpVirtualBox web interface mini screenshot.
Host:
- Ubuntu 12.04
Client:
- Win XP, 768MB RAM, 64MB Video, using Remote Desktop & accessing via Ubuntu & Remmina.
Things I've tried:
- Switching on guest 2D & 3D graphics in VirtualBox settings
- Reinstalling VirtualBox tools in client
- Switching off Hardware acceleration in client
I'm all out of ideas & would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
Darren.

Re: Diagonal graphic corruption
The screenshot looks like an issue with 3D acceleration on a remote guest. Remmina probably will not be able to handle the acceleration as well as phpvirtualbox. What happens if you disable the 3D/2D acceleration in the guest settings?

Re: Diagonal graphic corruption
Hi, 3D was switched off for that screenshot. I've just tried it again and indeed, phpVirtualBox can't start a client if it has 3D switched on.Perryg wrote:The screenshot looks like an issue with 3D acceleration on a remote guest. Originally I had both 2D & 3D switched off and I was still having the problem.

Re: Diagonal graphic corruption
Do you have unity 2d or 3d enabled on the host?

Yes, Unity 3D on the host.Perryg wrote:Do you have unity 2d or 3d enabled on the host?
This is the only guest (of 4-5) where I've seen this problem though.
(btw Perryg - you have impressive number of posts!)

Hummm,
What are the other guest?
Does it look like this without the guest additions?
Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
Thanks! I've been here almost since the beginning and post every day.

Re: Diagonal graphic corruption
The other guests are mostly WinXP but also Win server 2K3 & Windows 7.
No the problem doesn't show up when guest additions are uninstalled.
I tried using X routing (ssh to server with -X & running VirtualBox) and it seems to be working fine (with 2D & 3D switched on, and guest additions installed with 3D), so I guess that is my work around.
I'll try it again later to get a guest log file when the corruption is showing.
Thanks.

Re: Diagonal graphic corruption
Using X routing, the speed was fine for everything except typing - which makes it a little difficult to programme!
So I switched off 3D and reverted back to using phpVirtualBox & Remmina, expecting the problem to quickly return so I could get the logs.
And after a day of working the problem didn't show up again! go figure.
I'll report back here if it does show, but if not, the only thing I changed was booting the client into safe mode and installing the 3D graphics driver when reinstalling guest additions.
The guest has 3D switched off, although I didn't switch off 2D as it was checked and disabled.
Thanks.
Darren.
