I recently bought a new MBP and I have to copy or move the VM from the old one.
I'm quite sure I read a post or a how to about this topic but I cannot find it now.
Could someone please address me to this post or how to?

If the VMs were created using VBox v4 or later then the procedure is simple: copy the VM folder(s) to the new host, run VBox and use Machine|Add to register them.

I think they were created with Vbox V4, but how can I check it out?
Any setting or property or information can help?

If the VM settings file has the .vbox extension then it's a v4 format VM. Another sign is that all VM related files (.vbox, .vdi, Logs) are stored in one folder called <vm name>. There's also the fact that the <vm name> folder is usually (but doesn't have to be) stored inside a default container folder called (on Mac hosts - I think) "VirtualBoxVMs".

The old v3 layout was unmistakeably different: VMs described by a <vm name>.xml file, which is stored in .VirtualBox/Machines/<vm name/, hard disk images stored in a separate folder .VirtualBox/HardDisks, used by all VMs.

If your VM used the old v3 layout then it's best to clone it on the original PC first: the clone will have the v4 layout. It's also possible to convert the layout manually if you really know what you're doing.
