Is fast enough to run VM from USB 3.0 pendrive, a fast one ?

My idea would be to create a VM containing programming stuff as VS2010 SQL SERVER 2012 and packaged all onto USB Pendrive

Is this useable ? fast ?
Do any of you aware of a benchmark built by someone and available on internet ?

You can copy the / create the vdi file on the stick, that is fast enough.
But you can't boot directly from the stick.

Could you define fast enough ?

If pendrive says read at 130Mo/s, does it feel as internal harddrive ?

I can't. I want to purchase a ultrabook with 128Go SSD. It's expensive and I think that I will lack of space.

So the idea would be to buy an external pendrive to store the VM, not using SSD space.

I asked that to know if 128Go will be ok or if I should go to expensive 256.

You can locate the entire VM folder on an external drive, not just the VDI. But, bear in mind that "USB3" indicates the maximum performance of the interface, not the performance of the drive. I would want to see benchmarks for the drive itself before I came to any conclusions.
