I'm trying to setup basic networking in a Windows 7 guest to make it a full member of my domain. My problem is that I can't ping the PC name from the host or vice-versa, and the IP4 address of the guest is not coming from my domain's subnet. I simply want to access file shares between the host and guest and vice-versa (I've tried \\PCNAME and \\<ipaddress> but it always fails between resolving the guest from the host (and vice-versa).

I'm using NAT with DHCP enabled in the VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter. The IPv4 address for that adapter is the default (192.168.56.1). My windows domain has DHCP enabled on the DC at 192.168.1.101, and I have a router using gateway 192.168.1.1 (not using DHCP). The guest adapter's IPV4 settings is obtaining an IP and DNS server automatically.

What is wrong with my configuration? I've tried disabling the VirtualBox DHCP server to no avail. I've also tried explicit IP, DNS and Gateway addresses in the guest but that doesn't work either.

Use Bridged.
Host-only and NAT will not be in the same subnet to be able to join the domain.
