Cannot use Copy/Paste

Post by Sky8 »

Hello!

Once the virtualbox is started up, Windows cannot use Copy/Paste, the virtualbox version is 4.1.18 r78361. If any one faced the same issues or not? Thanks!

Is "the VirtualBox" referring to a VM? If so, did you install the guest additions?

Also, copy and paste what? And between what and what? (host and guest?).

Hello!

Not the Guest cannot copy/paste, it's the Host cannot copy/paste. The Host is Win7 Professional. Thanks!

Ah, I see.

I have a vague memory of one other person reporting something similar some time ago, with no resolution.

Make sure about two things: 1. 'Use host I/O cache' option is checked in Settings-->Storage-->SATA Controller and 2. 'Solid-state drive' is checked in the same settings but for the .vdi file of your Virtual machine. That should fix the problem.

I don't see why either of those settings would influence copy/paste on the host. The OP hasn't even confirmed that a VM needs to be running to cause the problem, and if not then the settings of one VM can't possibly be relevant. Also, I don't know why anyone would want to turn on the SSD signal unless they are using an SSD, and installed a guest OS which recognizes the signal: none of which has been confirmed by the OP either.

I have the same problem. I have created a shared folder but this can't be found in virtualbox.

I used another virual driver and there I just copied a file from regular window to the virtual without any problem.

How do I do it with virtualbox?

@Klauzer: you do not have the same problem. Apart from the description having a couple of words in common, your problem isn't even close. Your problem is that VirtualBox does not - and never has - supported drag and drop of files (or copy and paste of files) between guest and host. Use shared folders instead. ps. No further discussion of that separate issue should be carried out here.

Go to VirtualMachine's Settings->General->Advanced->Shared Clipboard (Bidirectional)

Reboot your virtual machine.

for me it solved the problem (it was set on Disabled), I had some machines working some not, so i checked settings in working ones they had bidirectional clipboard. Dont know if this was upgrade issue or... just double check your shared clipboard options.

Hope this helps someone.

VirtualBox V 4.1.20

p.s.

dont forget to "install guest additionss"
