I am trying to get my Ubuntu Precise VM to connect to a wireless router using my host's airport (MacBook Pro, 10.6), and can't get it to work. Plugging in a cable directly to the router, however, does seem to work flawlessly. I would like to get the wireless connection working though, so any suggestions on what to try would be much appreciated.
When I was trying to connect over the airport I used en1: Airport, Promiscuous mode: deny, Cable Connected: yes (and I tried no as well).

The guest will use what ever the host is actually connected to. The only way to connect the guest direct to a wireless device is for it to be a USB adapter and then you would not use the network section of VirtualBox.

This description doesn't really make a lot of sense. It would help if you told us exactly what you are doing. You cannot plug a vm directly into anything! I presume that you mean that you plug a NIC in the host into an Ethernet port on the router. If you then use bridge mode in VirtualBox the vm works like another machine on the local LAN. It is not uncommon for bridge virtual networking to have problems with Wireless networks. (This is not confined to VirtualBox. It is a conflict between the way bridge filters work and the wireless protocols).
As Perry pointed out, the only way to directly connect to the Airport from the vm is to use a USB NIC and capture the USB device from the guest OS.
