Full Screen 3-finger Swipe not working

I purchased a 2012 macbook pro, and installed the latest version of virtualbox and guest additions (4.1.18 r78361). I'm running a 64 bit Windows 7 as a guest.
The issue I'm having is that when I set my guest to full screen mode, it becomes full screen over top of my osx desktop. How do I force the VM's fullscreen window into a separate area so that I can use 3-finger swipe to go from osx desktop to my full screen VM desktop. An example of this working can be found on youtube by searching for "Switching between full screen VirtualBox VMs in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion" (sorry - you'll have to search. I cannot post URLs in the forum yet
) if my wording doesn't make sense
