Problems with Mouse

Post by recobafan »

Hi there,

I recently installed DSL on my VirtualBox system, and it opens fine, but when I get to the main window (similar to a what a windows main screen looks like) my mouse doesn't seem to work!

I use my mouse outside of the VirtualBox and it works fine, but as soon as it goes into the actual window, my mouse disappears, and never to be seen until I wave my mouse outside of the window.

(I hugely struggle with words, so please bare with me :p)

If anyone can help me how to grab the mouse when I go to the VB window that would be grand!

Thanks!

Probably the best approach is to use a well supported linux distro like OpenSuse or Ubuntu.

What you can try instead is changing the vbox guest setting "system / absolute pointing device".

DSL to me means "Digital Subscriber Line" (of which ADSL is the asymmetric variant). It take it that DSL means something else to you, I would guess some Linux variant - better just say what that is.

Normally, installing the guest additions gives you an integrated mouse. It would be bad news if this VM already had additions for another VM platform - that would be something else we'd need to know.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. DSL = Damn Small Linux (well it does for me anyway :p)

Stefan, yes I'm in the process of installing Ubuntu; Where do I access the Vbox Guest setting?

Select the guest in the VBOX GUI. And then edit the guest settings in the system tab.

Ubuntu is working fine. And in the bottom right corner of the Ubuntu window, there is a mouse with a green arrow, and when i click that I am
able to select 'disable mouse integration' which basically makes my mouse now work.

However, in the DSL(damn small linux) one, the same icon (mouse with a green arrow) is at the same place, but when i click it, I am not able to select
'disable mouse integration'.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Thanks!

Yes, delete it :)

You can try to install the guest additions in DSL. Dont know if this work. But the "great" distros like OpenSuse and Ubuntu are known to work well, "small" distros like DSL are not supported very well. DSL is for old hardware. So i think, there is no need to use it in a VM.

Lol, the only reason I'm using it is cos I'm doing a small online course, and one of the main programs it uses is DSL unfortunately!
