Unable to launch Windows 7 guest after install. missing file

Post by LeonG »

I have been trying to install a Windows Guest (64 bit Windows 7) on a Linux host (Mandriva 2011, kernel 3.0.28, 12GB RAM, 2.8GHz Intel i7)
I upgraded to VB 4.1.18r78361 and installed the extensions.

At first I had trouble with the install failing at various times with an error of a corrupt or missing file (80070570). I then used another hard drive (the default choice from VB on my /home partition) and was able to make it through the install without an error, but then when the guest went to restart the first time it failed with a message of a missing file (CI.dll). I then tried again and this time removed all my attached usb drives and rebooted my host. The settings are a base memory of 2GB, Bridged network, no USB,

The install again failed upon the first restart with a missing file message, but a different file (Ntfs.sys)
I am unable to get a working guest system and do not know what to do next. The Windows disk is an OEM disk that I purchased and was new in a sealed case.

Appreciate whatever guidance anyone can give. Thank you in advance

Some if not most OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) disks are tied to specific machines. It may not be possible to actually install if it does not see the specific hardware. Retail versions are the only true installable media.

Thank you. This has been the day from H_ll. I tried again using all the default setting of VB and was able to install. Then slowly began to change settings and access my network. It seems to be working now, but if I do this again, I will remember your advice. Spent all day reinstalling, but finally it seems to be working-------------------- so far.
Best to you and thanks for responding.
