Development Environment and VBox Hosts

Post by mike quinn »

I am confused about Host only, vs Bridged adapters

1 - I want to be able to host 2 VMs on my host
2 - I want to be able to access both guests (VM1 and VM2) from a development environment running on the Guest
3 - I want to be able to have the guests communicating with each other
4 - I want to be able to run this without the host being connected to any network at all

Running bridged adapter is fine and allows all this, but if I'm not connected
to a network, it doesn't work
Host adapter seems to allow 1,3 and 4 no problems, but does not allow 2

I know I must be missing something, but not sure what

How so? Have you actually tried it? "Host only" allows multiple VMs plus the host to participate in a virtual network. The only thing you can't easily do with this network is access the internet, because there are no direct connections to the physical world.
