installation of older systems

Post by hbsnet »

Just got a Mac Pro, need to run some older software....not happening. Installed VB for MAC and tried to install older OS/10.3.2 X, and Adobe Photo Shop 7. It's IDing the DVD, but not the software. Not sure what to do from here, any advice would be helpful.

I've never heard of OS/10.3.2 X. Do you mean OS X 10.3 (Panther)? If so then you're SOL because 10.3 only runs on Power PC processors and VirtualBox is a virtualizer and not an emulator. What that means is you can use VirtualBox to run another OS designed to use Intel processors but not an OS for a totally different processor family (Power PC). It wasn't until OS X 10.4 that Apple released a version of OS X that could run on Intel processors.

If the PhotoShop 7 you have can be run on Windows then you could create a Windows XP virtual environment with VirtualBox and install it there. If it's a Mac version then you'll need to check eBay and buy a Power PC Mac, one of the G series (G3, G4, or G5).
