Greeting Virtual folks :) ,
I just installed Windows 7 on V-box on ubuntu 12.04 host system. Then i realized that I have not enabled 3D when installing Guest-additions. So Tried it & got to know that, I have to run windows in safe mode to do the same. So I grew VRam size to 128 Mb & did as instructed but in safe mode the installation is not launching atall not the selection window of .exe file too. I am running 4.1.16 version of Virtual box. I have ntel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6570 @ 2.10GHz × 2 processor & 1.9 GiB Ram.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks, Have a nice day,
Dr. Mrinal (just lovein V-box)

With Windows 7 you want to install the wddm drivers instead and that is *not done in safe mode.
Just run the install again in normal mode and when you select install 3D you say no to the first question.

Yes, WDDM driver is required to run Aero on Win Vista and later guests

Did you read my reply? Just install the guest additions normally (in the guest) and select to enable 3D. When you are asked if you want to install the 3D select no. You will then be able to install the wddm drivers in the guest.

OK OK, Sorry for the misunderstanding, I did that & got the Aero effect & some thing else too & it is scary. The screen is stcking & also making my host os unresponsive.

I tried to upload the images in attachment but can't. I have given my guest os some 800+ Ram & 128mb Vram. What should I do ?

Regards,
Mrinal.

Post the guests log file (as an attachment)
See Online Users Manual for the location of the file.

Code: Select all

00:00:02.714 OpenGL Info: Render SPU: GL_VENDOR: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
00:00:02.714 OpenGL Info: Render SPU: GL_RENDERER: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2
00:00:02.714 OpenGL Info: Render SPU: GL_VERSION: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.2
While you are running low with RAM I don't think that is the actual reason for your issue. The hosts graphics adapter is known to have issues with 3D acceleration in a virtual machine. Make sure that the host has the latest display drivers.
