VirtualBox fails to select Windows 7 iso

Post by byetisener »

Failed to open the CD/DVD image /Users/byetisener/Downloads/X15-65805.iso.

Could not get the storage format of the medium '/Users/byetisener/Downloads/X15-65805.iso' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).

Result Code: VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80BB0005)
Component: Medium
Interface: IMedium {53f9cc0c-e0fd-40a5-a404-a7a5272082cd}
Callee: IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}

Anyone got one idea about this one?

VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED means that it isn't a valid ISO image. Either it's not really an ISO (i.e. some random file given an ISO extension), hopefully that is unlikely. VirtualBox will also reject an ISO if the file size is not a multiple of 512 bytes, as that means it can't be a valid disk image. It's also worth checking the MD5 sum, to prove that the download isn't corrupted.

By asking for links, I hope you are not asking for warez, because we don't allow that here.

The only cure for a broken ISO is to get a valid one, usually by imaging your own Win7 setup DVD. I believe your Mac host provides a decent disk imaging tool.

Thanks for your help, I, finally, managed to set up Windows 7.

But now, I came with final question :)

It does not recognize my screen resolution and 1280x800 is not listed. Is there way to set a custom resolution?

Install the guest additions (inside the guest), to give yourself better display capabilities. Then you can switch to full screen mode if you want to use the full host resolution. Details in user manual.
