The USB device using the Audio Codec works great in OS 10.6.8.
In Virtual Box I went to settings - ports - usb and I have two devices - Flash Drive (0100) and Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio Codec (0100) and both are checked.

When I get to Windows 7 there are no USB devices attached and right clicking show two grayed out - Apple internal keyboard/touch pad (0081) and the Burr-Brown - from TI USB audio Codec ( 0100 ).

The Apple bluetooth (0180), IR Receiver (0016), Memory card loader (9833) and Builtin iSight (0489) are all there but Black (not grayed out )

I am running all 32 bit - due to needing 32 bit in Windows 7 for some VPN software.

Where do I look next?

Presumably they are grayed out because the host is using them. Why you do you need the guest have direct access anyway? Most applications, including VirtualBox, would normally use the audio capabilities of the host OS.

I am trying to use the device connected to the USB port to feed audio data to/from an application in the Guest system (Windows 7). The device I want to access has a sound card in it that I want to use. I want to continue to use the sound card in the Mac for all other computer functions. This is for some digital communications modes over Amateur Radio.

I also have a Windows XP SP3 guest machine installed and it has the same problem. It too, will not access the USB attached sound card.

Hey Carty, did you ever get this working?
I am attempting to use my Icom IC-7200 with the same USB audio chip in there.
The device appears in the list, and I can add it to the USB ports to automatically grab. But the device also shows up in OS X as one of the audio in/out devices.

Macbook Pro 10.8.4 + virtualbox 4.2.16 + winxp + RMS Express / Winmore - same deal, looks like host has control of the device and the VB has it grayed.

Has anyone discovered how to get this enabled? I have a "Burr-Brown from TI Audio CODEC [0100]" device that I am trying to get going with a Timewave Navigator system in Win 8.1. I have tried a few suggestions from web posts, but they all point to 3rd party businesses that want $30-$40 to place their "Panic Warning" "virus" software on your system that can't be uninstalled and is resident and always active!

Anyone with a solution that works, please help! I am trying to get this last part of Digital Mode setup going, and have put far too much time into dead-ends.

I went to the VirtualBox Settings -> Ports -> USB and enabled the Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC [0100] filter with the following properties:

I then launched the Windows 8.1 Guest, and in Devices -> USB, the Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC is still greyed out. Should the Serial No, Port, and the Remote switch be changed, in order to enable it in the Guest?

Also, is there a VirtualBox Support technician monitoring this thread?

Follow the steps below. If there is a failure, please state which step failed:

1. Make sure that the Extension Pack is installed on the host. The same version as VirtualBox.
2. Create a USB filter in your guest settings while the device is plugged in the host. Delete all values except VendorID and ProductID. Check also http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids to make sure that you have the numbers correct.
3. Unplug the device.
4. Start your guest (the one that you applied the filter to). Let it start completely. Log in if you have to.
5. NOW you plug your device. The filter should capture it and pass control to your guest. You might get a "New hardware found" wizard on the host, that's normal.
6. If the device shows up in your host and is not captured by the filter, either the filter is incorrect, or there might be a problem with your filter installation.
7. If the device shows up, but as unavailable, "eject" it from your host (if you can), but leave it plugged in. It should show up as available.
8. Are you by any chance using a USB 3.0 port?
9. Try your favorite search engine. It can work miracles most of the time.

I tried the steps you suggested and failed at steps 2 and 4, for some reason.

First, I went to the download site and downloaded both the latest version 4.3.14 of VBox (I had 4.3.12 installed prior to that), and also the 4.3.14 Extension Pack. I installed the VBox and Extension pack and both were successful.

I then attempted to create the filter at step 2, and discovered that if I leave only the vendorID and ProductID (The Remote pulldown cannot be deleted, so I left it at No), the Filter disappears. It apparently needs more info than those two items (Which were the correct numbers (08bb and 2904) in order to have a valid (titled) filter.

I then left all the info, as I originally reported, performed step 3, then step 4. As the guest completed initializing, a message displayed:
"VirtualBox Guest Additions update available!
Your guest is currently running the Guest Additions version 4.3.12. We recommend updating to the latest version
(4.3.14) by choosing the install option from the Devices menu."

So, now my question is, since the Host has 4.3.14, is there another step in the Guest (windows 8.1) to upgrade to 4.3.14? If so, how is that done? Is the Device Manager involved with VBox, i.e., is VBox a device that needs a driver update? If not, is there a way to access VBox from the Task Bar? There is an entry entitled "Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Additions 4.3.12r93733", but either right or left clicking or double clicking this entry does not do anything.

BTW, when I plugged in the Timewave Navigator, which is basically a Soundcard Modem that needs the USB Audio CODEC, things seemed to be connecting, but the VBox Devices menu still had the device disabled. As a result, the eject doesn't function.

I am new to the IMac world, so don't know how to determine the USB rev, but I suspect it is USB3 since the IMac is only 4 months old. A BeLarc Advisor report reports a connection at 1Gbps USB Input Device, which sounds like it is fast enough for USB3.

The VirtualBox bug that required the deletions was fixed in 4.3.12. Where have you been ?

That recommendation, as far as I know, is not related to any bug. It follows the principle that USB filters should only be as tightly specified as they need to be.

That should NOT happen. In fact you can create what's called a Catch-All filter where everything is blank. What I suspect happened is that you deleted the "Name" field as well. That was (wrongly by my side) assumed that would be left untouched. Try it again with the "Name" filled in this time. It can be blank (just tried it), but it's a good idea to name them for easy distinction.

That most probably is your main problem. I don't remember the exact situations where this would work, but I believe that if your device is USB2 it should work, or if you attach it to a USB2 hub it should work. I'm awaiting to be corrected.

I wonder why the Guest is not recognizing the upgrade to Revision 14 and keeps reporting that an upgrade is needed.
