Installing Windows 8 Release Preview

Microsoft Windows 8 Release Preview guest install fails I’m running Virtualbox 4.1.16 32 bit. The Consumer preview of windows 8 works fine. I am using a Dell Optiplex 755. The Release preview installs on the 755 so I know the hardware is compatible with the Release preview, but it will not install as a guest OS. It fails very early in the start up with a 0x0000005D error which seems to be an incompatible CPU error. I have PAE/NX checked on the motherboard. It seems that some of the CPU features specifically NX are not available to the guest OS.

Wait for a new VBOX release.

For me it doesnt work, too. Consumer Preview works, but RC not.

In VMWARE the RC works. So it must be a new Win8 feature that does not work in VBOX.

Not for all people, maybe it depends on the real hardware and your host os.

The 32-bit version installs fine for me, but it runs very slowly if you install the GAs. The devs are working on a new test version of the GAs for Win 8 RP. See the sticky at the top of this forum.
