Unable to PLAY DVD on guest OS.

Guest OS : Windows server 2008
Host OS : Windows 7 Professional

The Guest OS does not have the NIC driver (that allows me to get online). I saved the driver on a DVD. When I try to run the DVD from the guest OS, I am getting a "Windows cannot access this disc" message.

I tried the DVD on the host OS, it's working fine.

Any suggestions ?

You should not need to install a NIC driver in the guest OS. Server 2008 should have drivers for the emulated NIC in the vm. From the VirtualBox manager, check what NIC the vm is using. If it is not using the Intel PRO/1000 GT Desktop, set it to do so. 2008 should have the driver for that built-in.

To use the DVD drive in the host machine in the vm you select it from the Storage option in the vm settings (as viewed from the VirtualBox manager window). Click on the disk icon at the right of the CD/DVD Drive entry and select the host drive.

hello !

I did as you suggested, now I am getting the "e:\ is not accessible"; location could not be found message." This is different from what the message I got before.

Also, I checked the device manager, my windows server 2008 does not have an Ethernet controller. there is a yellow ? next to the ethernet controller.

I just need to be able to run the DVD/CD on the guest OS.

Thanks !

"E:\" is a path name, not a drive name. "E:" would presumably be the name of the host disk drive, assuming you got the drive letter right.

Thanks for the correction. You are right. E:\ is the name of the host disk drive, which the guest disk drive does not have access to . I think this is because the passthrough is not enable. I cannot enable it because it is greyed out.

The guest needs to be shut down to be able to change the settings.
If the gues is active or in a saved state the settings will be greyed out.

@Martin

You are correct. The guest has to be shutdown. I did shutdown to the guest machine and was able to make the change (settings==>Storage==>Host drive :E==>put a check mark next to passthrough) from the Virtual Box manager.

Now I can run the DVD/CD with the guest machine.

Thank you all for all your suggestions. This is greatly appreciated.
