Hi All -

This is the first time I've installed Virtual Box on my personal desktop , below are the details which might help to determine my issue. The issue what I'm facing is

1)I am not able to ping between host and guest.
2)internet not working in guest machine

Host OS:Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit

Guest OS:Oracle Linux 5 32 bit

I have attached 'ifconfig' output for guest and host machines and also I have attached VBox.log

What network mode? If it's NAT then that might explain PING not working. Edit: Hmm. The ifconfig result doesn't look like NAT, it looks like bridged.

I'm sure the real network guys will be along to comment in due time, but in the meantime I see nothing amiss. The guest seems to be sending and receiving data, meaning it sees a working ethernet connection. What is your PC connected to, i.e. is it a home router or a business server?

Code: Select all

inet addr:192.168.2.250 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
Typo in the address. Should be 192.168.1.250

What's really weird that is your host (or stated that way) You sure they are not backwards? I mean if the host was really configured this way it would not work either.

Mark, I used bridged network while I configured the network.

It's home PC connected to home router.

As Perry pointed, there is typo in ifconfig output, below is correct o/p for the guest

inet addr:192.168.2.250 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

No, issue not resolved.

Just now pinged from guest and host, both are not able to ping each other.

Just wondering because the guest is not in the same subnet as the host.
if one is using *.*.2.* and the other is using *.*.1.* they can not possibly see each other.
Check the ifconfig again on both and make sure that all numbers match except the last octet.

That did the trick. Changed the subnet accordingly and able to ping both ways. Thanks Perry.
